The Pros and Cons of Buying a Fender Frontman 212R
Sep 8, 2011 Fender Frontman 212R

Whenever I consider buying a new guitar amplifier, there are several things that I examine. First, I weigh my desire for quality against the price I plan to spend. Second, I listen for power and clarity of EQ’s. Finally, I look at size and weight of the particular amplifier for transport purposes. This article talks about a few of the pros and cons when deciding on the Fender Frontman 212R as your choice for a guitar amplifier.
The Fender Frontman 212R is ideal for band practice and gigging. The power that it provides gives you the ability to be loud enough for small to medium sized gigs without the help of a PA system. It comes equipped with two 12″ speakers that are gig ready.
The EQ’s on this coveted amplifier are very clean and sensitive. At the slightest turn of any of the EQ knobs, you can hear a difference in the equalization. That’s a huge plus when buying a guitar amp. It also comes with a two-button foot switch. One-button switches between “clean” and “dirty” channels and the other button switches between “drive” and “more drive”.
There are not very many cons to the Fender Frontman 212R. However, there are a few cons, so lets take a closer look at them. This nicely built amp weighs a whopping 48 lbs. that’s more than I’m normally willing to lug around. In addition to the weight, there is a small inconvenience with the “drive” to “more drive” button feature. The two drive channels use the same EQ settings that you cannot set separately. As a result, whenever you switch from “drive” to “more drive”, the volume gets louder.

Although there are cons that pose somewhat of an inconvenience with this amp. The bang for your buck is tremendous. All things considered, this amp may be a little under priced. This amp is listed on www.guitarcenter.com for $249.99. That’s a steal!!!!!
In conclusion, the Pros far outweigh the Cons on this amp. Despite the Fender Frontman 212R being a solid-state amp, it still has wonderful tones and is priced excellently. By the way, I tried out my Gibson Les Paul traditional on this amp, and it sounds great. If you’re looking for an amp that will be great for gigging and practicing with a band, the Fender Frontman 212R is the perfect choice for you. However, if you just want to practice around the house alone, this may be a little too powerful for that.
